We are seeking experienced Field Engineers to support a telecommunications infrastructure refresh for a federal customer in Washington, DC. This hands‑on role is ideal for candidates with strong structured cabling experience, knowledge of BICSI standards, and expertise installing and maintaining Cat6 copper, fiber optic cabling, and telecommunications infrastructure in mission‑critical environments.
Candidates must live within a commutable distance of Washington, DC, or be willing to relocate. Work will be completed during nighttime hours.
Responsibilities
- Lead installation, termination, testing, labeling, and troubleshooting of Cat6 copper and fiber optic cabling in accordance with BICSI and industry standards using TDR and other certification tools.
- Perform telecommunications infrastructure installations including patch panels, fiber enclosures, racks, cable trays, ladder racks, and related hardware.
- Work in confined spaces.
- Support campus‑wide cabling refresh and modernization across multiple secure buildings.
- Read and interpret telecom drawings, floor plans, wiring schematics, and installation documentation.
- Conduct cable routing, dressing, bundling, and labeling following customer standards.
- Support cutovers, migrations, telecommunications room buildouts, and MDF/IDF upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with federal, security, and safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate installation documentation and support inventory tracking.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and government personnel to support project execution and timelines.
Required Qualifications
- Active Department of Defense (DoD) Top Secret clearance.
- 10+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience installing and supporting structured cabling systems in enterprise or federal environments.
- Hands‑on experience with Cat6 copper and fiber optic cable installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience building telecommunications rooms, MDFs, and IDFs.
- Hands‑on experience with fiber optic testing equipment and cable certification tools.
- Ability to analyze and create telecom drawings and installation documentation.
- Physical ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in physically demanding environments.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to lead and mentor small teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- BICSI Technician certification or related BICSI credentials.
- Experience with jet‑ or air‑blown fiber installation.
- Skilled in confined space entry and associated rescue systems.
- Experience supporting campus‑wide infrastructure modernization or refresh projects.
- Experience supporting secure federal or DoD environments.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Demands
- Lift, carry, and move equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
- Work on ladders, lifts, and in confined spaces such as telecommunications rooms, above ceilings, and under raised floors.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing during the workday.
- Pull and route copper and fiber cabling through ceilings, conduits, and cable pathways.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and cable testing equipment safely and effectively.
- Work in active construction, data center, and secure government environments.
- Travel between buildings or work locations across a campus environment as needed.
- Comply with all site safety and security requirements.
Compensation and Benefits
Projected salary range: $100,000+ annually, determined by experience, clearance level, certifications, and overall qualifications.
