Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an engineer in training to assist with construction field work and ensure conformance to project plans and specs. The role includes coordinating quality control inspections, observing material testing, and performing calculations for payments.

You will review shop drawings and interpret drawings to identify discrepancies while reporting construction progress with photos and videos. You will work with the Resident Engineer to resolve issues, stay current with industry tech,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
• EIT training in digital construction management software is preferred (Constructware, Asite or similar).
• Current/previous HNTB intern is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist with construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Coordinate and schedule quality control inspections.
• Observe on-site material testing and coordinate testing and monitoring services.
• Perform mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
• Review shop drawings and ensure compliance with plans and specifications.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, identifying discrepancies.
• Review contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy and consistency.
• Document construction progress with photos/videos and prepare progress reports.
• Liaise with Resident Engineer on progress and issues; support engineer of record.
• Stay current with industry technology and tools for inspection work.
• Utilize GPS/Rovers to increase inspection efficiency and accuracy.
• Provide office engineer support: prepare meeting agendas/minutes, track RFIs, submittals, pay estimates.

Job description

• Assists with construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, and other contract documents.
• Coordinates and schedules quality controls inspections.
• Observes on-site material testing and coordinates testing and monitoring services.
• Performs mathematical calculations for material quantity payments.
• Performs basic shop drawing review and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
• Reviews contractor’s daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness and consistency.
• Regularly reviews contractor's as-built mark-ups, documents project progress using video and photo and prepares reports on construction progress.
• Consults with Resident Engineer on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
• Remains current and knowledgeable of industry technology and tools used to perform inspection work through industry resources, training, and research.
• Gains exposure to new technology and utilizes it (GPS/Rovers) to increase efficiency and accuracy of inspection tasks.
• Performs office engineer work when needed including but not limited to; prepares meeting agendas and meeting minutes, assists in processing and maintains tracking logs for RFIs, submittals, pay estimates and other deliverables.
