Job summary

R.T. Moore invites applications for a Field Engineer to bridge office and field operations. You will coordinate mechanical and structural systems, review field issues, and participate in BIM meetings while ensuring design alignment with budgets and client expectations.

The role demands a 4-year degree or 5+ years of construction experience with strong MEP aptitude, plus effective communication and leadership. A Monday–Friday in-office schedule is typical in this site-based position.

Qualifications

  • 4 year degree in BCM, ME, MET or Construction Engineering or 5+ years of construction experience with strong MEP aptitude and proven leadership ability.
  • Familiarity with basic construction methods and construction document interpretation.
  • Basic knowledge of BIM platforms such as AutoCAD, Revit.
  • Clear, effective communications skills – both written and verbal.
  • Ability to focus and drive projects forward to completion.
  • Aptitude for prioritizing and problem-solving.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office; MS Project a plus.
  • Disposition for accuracy, attention to detail, and organization.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • A desire to grow and be challenged. Willing to dive in to a fast-paced and constantly evolving business.
  • Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all mechanical and structural systems for each project to ensure proper scheduling between all vendors.
  • Review, analyze, and resolve field construction issues, discrepancies, or interferences with A/E, owner and/or contractor.
  • Participate in BIM meetings; develop adjustments in design as required utilizing appropriate software and design tools.
  • Create and submit weekly project reports including oversight and management of budgets.
  • Communicate progress and project status with leadership.
  • Drive for job site safety with entire project team.
  • Establish exterior-interior point locations and working lines and help evaluate additional potential dimensions.
  • Establish control points and lay out all under-slab, sleeve, and in-bed locations.
  • Create isometrics and detail views required for installation.
  • Perform heat gain/loss calculations to select mechanical equipment type and size; ensure testing.
  • Create plumbing design to size DWV, water & PRV zones, and gas piping.
  • Translate and maintain “As-Built” drawings into physical installation and support project.
  • Answer on-site code and design requests to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Review truss, panel, and structural overlays; resolve conflicts with design.
  • Manage submittals and changes to align with project specs.
  • Coordinate change orders, expedite materials and site equipment, assist in estimates.
  • Generate and communicate equipment schedules for builder, architect, engineer, and other trades.
  • Identify conflicts and resolve delays due to site conditions/design.

The role of Field Engineer is critical as the entry-level liaison between office and field operations to provide communication and support such as technical expertise, material management, and execution of design in accordance with the production budget and customer expectations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Support

  • Independently coordinate all mechanical and structural systems needed for each project to ensure proper scheduling between all vendors
  • Autonomously review, analyze, and resolve field construction issues, discrepancies, or interferences with A/E, owner and/or contractor
  • Confidently participate in all BIM meetings; carefully develop adjustments in design as required utilizing appropriate software and design tools
  • Accurately create and submit weekly project reports including oversight and management of budgets
  • Thoroughly communicate progress and project status with leadership
  • Proactively drive for job site safety with entire project team
  • Precisely establish exterior-interior point locations and working lines and help evaluate additional potential dimensions
  • Correctly establish control points and lay out all under-slab, sleeve, and in-bed locations
  • Accurately create isometrics and detail views required for installation
  • Carefully perform heat gain and loss calculations to properly select and/or verify mechanical equipment type and size; ensure safe and effective equipment starting and testing
  • Analytically create plumbing design to properly size DWV, water & PRV zones, and gas piping
  • Clearly translate and maintain “As-Built” drawings and digital design into physical installation for field personnel and provide support throughout the project
  • Efficiently answer on-site code and design requests to ensure work complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions and verify installs per the design; communicate issues with non-conformance
  • Carefully review truss, panel, and structural overlays and shop drawings to ensure no conflicts with design; elevate all potential conflicts and drive to resolution
  • Proficiently manage submittals to ensure approval as well as communicate and manage changes to ensure alignment with project specifications

Project Management

  • Efficiently and effectively manages multiple ongoing construction projects simultaneously
  • Clearly communicates and collaborates with each project team including internal operations, field staff, vendors, and customers to ensure the highest degree of success for project completion and coordinate on-site when needed for redesigns and issue resolution
  • Proficiently coordinate change orders, expedite material and job site equipment, assist in the preparation of estimates, and compile data to assist in analyzing project progress
  • Accurately generate and communicate all equipment schedules for the builder, architect, engineer, and other trades as required
  • Proactively identify and navigate through conflicts affecting installation per job design or possible delays due to site conditions/design or trade conflicts and resolve coordination or schedule issues

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Indoor and outdoor responsibilities; exposed to outdoor weather conditions including rain, humidity, snow, wind, cold, and heat
  • Capable and willing to wear a hard hat, boots, and other required personal protective equipment
  • The environment may include very loud noises, working near mechanical and moving parts, working at various heights, and small, awkward, confining work spaces
  • There is a possibility of inhalation of fumes and airborne particles as well as a risk of electrical shock and vibrations
  • Must be able to do the following activities for most of the work day: stand, walk, use hands or fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, see, talk and hear
  • Must be able to climb or balance regularly
  • Limited travel
  • Capable of lifting at least 50 pounds on occasion
