Job summary

Ames Construction, a long-standing heavy civil and industrial contractor, builds critical infrastructure nationwide—highways, bridges, dams, mines and railways. The Field Engineer manages large and complex project-site work to keep operations safe, smooth and effective on site.

This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, at least one year of field engineering experience, and strong communication, problem solving, and attention to detail.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a field engineer or similar role.
  • Strong understanding of safety guidelines (OSHA statutes).
  • Ability to work in adverse weather and overtime.

Responsibilities

  • Designs temporary structures used during construction with emphasis on safety considerations.
  • Inspects installed equipment and technologies; solves issues that may arise.
  • Directs foremen or workers on-site.
  • Conducts research and accurately reports on project status.
  • Performs quality control inspections and checks work for compliance with contract documents.
  • Verifies proper materials are used and installations meet timelines and requirements.
  • Affirms safety compliance and enforces proper PPE on site.
  • May oversee project budget and communications.
