Job summary

Blach Construction is seeking an entry-level Field Engineer in the Northern California Bay Area. The role emphasizes apprenticeship in carpentry while supporting the Superintendent and project team in planning, safety, quality control, documentation, budgeting, and cost control.

You will work with carpenters, foremen, and superintendents, complete required apprenticeship hours, and learn operations such as RFIs and submittals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree (required).
• Versatile with different construction tasks.

• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to train and educate others.
• Proactive and willing to learn and develop.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite, scheduling software (MS Project, P6, or Suretrak), and exposure to CMiC or similar program.

Responsibilities

• Complete 4-year carpenter's union apprentice program.
• Work with carpenters, foremen, and superintendents.
• Attend and complete required apprenticeship classes and field hours.
• Develop carpentry skills on the job and learn basic knowledge of other trades.

Entry-Level Position Available

Title: Field Engineer

Summary of Position: Blach offers a unique approach to the Field Engineer role. The successful candidate will be primarily working as an entry-level apprentice in the field, building their craft skills as a carpenter during their 4 years of apprenticeship school. There will be opportunities to provide support and assistance to the Superintendent and project team in all aspects of job planning, scheduling safety and quality control, project documentation, developing and maintaining excellent relationships, budgeting, and cost control.

Typical Duties

• Complete 4-year carpenters union apprentice program
• Work with carpenters, foremen, and superintendents
• Attend and complete all required apprenticeship classes and required field hours
• Work on developing carpentry skills on the job and learn basic knowledge of all other trades
• Maintain a safe work environment
• Build relationships and respect from coworkers/peers
• Work with PE/PM to learn operations (RFIs/Submittal processing, scope statements, etc.).
• Shadow Foreman/Asst. Supt./Supt
• Learn each phase of a construction project
• Learn how to navigate through and have a general knowledge of plan reading

Position Status: Full-time, regular business hours, non-exempt
