Job summary

Central Civil Construction is seeking a Field Engineer to support the Project Manager, Site Superintendent, and Project Engineer on assigned projects. The Field Engineer must work on-site in Miami and be able to function both independently and as part of a project team.

You will manage on-site processes, document diligently, and communicate with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure safety, schedule, and quality goals are met.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in heavy civil construction
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or equivalent preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Understand contract documents and obligations for the project
  • Participate in safety reviews and toolbox meetings
  • Communicate with subcontractors and vendors for scheduling
  • Schedule material deliveries and verify quantity/quality
  • Prepare work plans and work packages
  • Assist with quality assurance measures
  • Assist in equipment scheduling
  • Take quantity measurements and calculate percent complete
  • Assist with daily labor timesheets and pay item quantities
  • Maintain organized project records
  • Perform additional tasks as directed by PM and Site Superintendent

Job description

Summary: The Field Engineer assists and supports the Project Manager, Project Superintendent and Project Engineer on assigned projects. The position works under direct supervision of the Project Manager and the Site Superintendent. The Field Engineer must be able to work independently but also succeed as part of the project team. The responsibilities of the Field Engineer include being responsible for on-site process and procedures as called for in Central’s agreement with the client or owner. The position requires an understanding of construction methods, procedures and administrative processes, excellent documentation skills and good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all members of the project (both internal and external). The Field Engineer must be a flexible and adaptable team player.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand the Contract documents, requirements and obligations of Central for the project.
  • Participates in job-site safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  • Subcontractor and vendor communication for scheduling and documentation
  • Schedule material deliveries at the direction of the site Superintendent, document and verify deliveries for quantity and quality
  • Prepare work plans and work packages
  • Participate, record, and in some cases oversee quality assurance measures
  • Assist in scheduling equipment when necessary
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials & work
  • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets
  • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming pay item quantities, percent complete of work activities for the submission of the monthly pay applications.
  • Maintain organized and detailed project records
  • Perform additional assignments per the Project Manager’s and Site Superintendent direction

Required Skills: Proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and PowerPoint; strong written and verbal communication skills; good time management & organizational skills; ability to function effectively as part of a team; dependable; ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times; ability to understand and follow directions; good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies; the ability to freely access all points of a construction site in a wide range of environments.

Education and Experience: This position requires one to three years of relevant experience in the Heavy Civil construction industry. A bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or equivalent is preferred however, relevant work experience in the Heavy Civil/Infrastructure Industry will be considered.

Physical Demands: To successfully perform the essential duties of this position, an individual must be able to perform in an active construction environment, regularly site, stand, walk, talk and listen, and frequently lift and carry objects up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and carry objects up to 30 pounds. Individuals must be able to access all points of a construction site in a wide range of work environments.
