As a Field Engineer at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO), you will play a pivotal role in enhancing the electric distribution infrastructure. Your primary responsibility will involve designing and staking new electric distribution lines while overseeing upgrades and maintenance of existing lines. This position entails significant fieldwork, requiring close coordination with our Engineering and Operations teams, and includes direct interaction with members and property owners to ensure prompt resolution of service issues. You will be responsible for preparing staking documents, conducting parish record searches for property ownership, obtaining necessary rights-of-way and permits, and maintaining a positive public image through professional and timely responses to inquiries. Daily tasks will also include conducting inspections of new construction, verifying the status of work orders, and leading contract crews during emergencies.

To thrive as a Field Engineer at Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation (SLEMCO), a combination of technical knowledge and interpersonal skills is essential. A Technical School Graduate with a focus on electrical or surveying disciplines is preferred. Candidates should possess experience in electrical distribution system design and staking, along with proficiency in using relevant surveying tools and software. A solid understanding of electrical distribution line construction, maintenance, and substation construction will be advantageous.
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 programs—including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint—will enable you to maintain accurate documentation and enhance communication with team members. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are critical for effectively interacting with the public and navigating various stakeholder relationships. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is crucial, as is the aptitude for following written and oral instructions. An insurable driving record is also a requirement, supporting the mobility needed for this role.
