As the Field Engineer, you will play a significant part in the success of planning, organizing and implementing project engineering & project controls tasks. Excellent communication, attention to detail and an ability to work well in a team environment are considered critical to this position. The Field Engineer is responsible for supporting the overall project administration and management of a construction project. The Field Engineer will setup and implement the weekly project controls as directed by the Project Manager or Sr. Project Engineer. These controls include scheduling and project management systems required by Strobel Energy Group and as defined in the prime contract documents.
The Field Engineer will be providing information to assist the Project Engineer) in continually evaluating the overall status of the project, searching for those things that have potential to impact the project goals and objectives negatively or positively. Time constraints dictate that there is an effective working relationship with the Project Manager, with a clear understanding of how challenges and opportunities are to be handled. Effective performance in this role requires a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the current project situation, as well as the project scope, Prime contract, Corporate and Project goals.
The role requires interfacing with all areas affected by the project including the client(s), engineering/design, subcontractors, distributors, vendors, and the ongoing strategic communication with project management regarding the status of the project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, construction management or a related field or work experiences deemed equivalent.

Client Interaction

- Assist in providing the client with contract required reports (weekly, monthly, schedule).
Safety
- Understand and follow Strobel Energy Group Corporate Safety Plan and site-specific safety plan.
- Support safety training meetings and sessions.
- Support safety department with ordering site specific safety consumables (goggles, gloves, etc.).
- Take active role in safety audits.

Leadership

Project Management
- Document Control : Ensuring that all engineering drawings, specifications, and other necessary documentation received at the job site are correctly received, dated, filed, and distributed. Making certain that drawings are delivered to the appropriate Craft Superintendent prior to physical placement of work.
- Manage revision control process.
- Assist with Request for Information (RIR) processes, collecting information and submitting these to the Project Team to be transmitted.
- Ensuring that all engineering drawings, specifications, and other necessary documentation received at the job site are correctly received, dated, filed, and distributed.
- Ensure redlines/asbuilts are being maintained and assembled for final turn over to client.
- Oversee Field Change Order and Processes : Assist in identifying, tracking, and submitting out of scope as defined by the contract.
Contract management
- Contract Management:
- Learn the provisions, terms, and scope of the Prime contract. Understand the contract notice/deliverable list identifying milestone commitments and any documentation requirements.
- Read and understand the project contract.
- Learn key terms and conditions (notice requirements, payment terms, LDs, milestone requirements, change order process, etc.).
- Assist in review of any contract documents for potential change orders (include scope drawings).
- Assist in completion of contract required submittals.
- Support closeout process (punch list, contractually require closeout documents).
- Support development of the final turn-over documents (warranty plan, liens, insurance, construction turnover documents).
Payroll and HR
- Payroll
- Time Entry and approvals.
- Onboarding, ability to step in and complete onboarding for new hires and transfers.
- Recruiting, including requesting craft through the Strobel Energy Group recruiting department.
- Understanding Strobel Energy Group benefits and connecting employees with Strobel Energy Group benefits coordinator as needed.
- Perform Strobel Energy Group pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
- Administering Accounting/Job Costs/Work in Progress (WIP) Updates : Learn and Assist the Project Manager with these activities.
Subcontract and Procurement Management:
- Subcontract Administration and Management : Assist in the assembly of drawings and specifications to support the process of obtaining bids from qualified subcontractors, with the support of the subcontracts group or site manager, and select qualified candidates. As the work progresses, the Field Engineer may be called to act as a liaison between the project team and the subcontractor.
- Subcontract Administration and Management:
- Learn and communicate key terms of the subcontract (LDs, Payment, Prime pass through).
- Request and review subcontractor qualifications.
- Attend the onsite kickoff meeting with each subcontractor prior to mobilization.
- Learn and Support Coordinate the final contract scope and administrative close out (Punch list, warranty, liens).
- Complete and return subcontractor evaluation form.
- Procurement
- Participate in the procurement process on the project.
- With the support from the Superintendent prepare material buyout take offs from issued for construction drawings.
- Provide support to Superintendents for buy out and equipment rental needs.
- Review purchases with the Sr. Project Engineer or Project Manager.
- Submit Proposed Purchase Orders to Corporate Procurement Department.
- Set up and manage receiving, inventory control, and Overage, Shortage, and Damage Reports.
- Manage the expediting process.
- Manage onsite material issuing and control.
Technical Abilities
- AutoCAD and 3d modeling
- Learning to operate AutoCAD viewers, print screen sections, add and remove layers.
- Knowledge to operate Navisworks model.
- Microsoft Office
- Have completed or be able to show Microsoft Level 2 Operator proficiency.
- Specifications and Drawings
- Able to read and understand standard multi-discipline specifications and drawings.
Requirements:
- 5+ years’ construction experience
- Basic computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets and electronic presentation programs.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret contract documents including drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and the project schedule.
- Must have oil and gas knowledge and/or experience.
- Must have excellent communication skills and be able to problem solve and resolve conflicts.
- Must be able to forecast and plan.
- Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment and move objects up to 50 pounds.
