Job description

Build Your Engineering Career Where the Work Happens

HRST is looking for an experienced Field Engineer with 4-10 years of experience to join our Field Services team, preferably based out of our Beaumont, Texas office.

This isn't a desk-only engineering role. Our Field Engineers work directly in power plants, helping clients solve real-world challenges involving HRSGs, boilers, construction, commissioning, inspections, repairs, and equipment reliability.

We're looking for an engineer who already has field experience and is ready to take ownership of assignments, work directly with customers and contractors, and apply sound engineering judgment in environments where practical solutions matter.

What You'll Do

As a Field Engineer, you will:

  • Oversee installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair activities involving HRSG and boiler systems.
  • Perform field inspections and evaluate equipment condition, performance, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot field issues and develop practical engineering recommendations.
  • Provide technical direction to subcontractors, fabricators, boilermakers, craft labor, and other field personnel.
  • Serve as an HRST technical representative at customer sites and, depending on experience, act as Site Manager for construction or installation projects.
  • Support outage inspections and maintenance activities at power generation facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance related to welding, structural issues, equipment reliability, and other field challenges.
  • Interpret inspection findings and field data to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Work directly with customers, contractors, Project Managers, Inspection, Analysis, and other HRST teams.
  • Prepare technical reports, field documentation, proposals, and engineering recommendations.
  • Help capture and share lessons learned from the field to strengthen HRST's technical knowledge.
What We're Looking For

We're not looking for an entry-level engineer for this opening. The ideal candidate has already developed a solid engineering foundation and is comfortable operating independently in a field environment.

You should bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Previous engineering experience in power generation, boilers, HRSGs, heavy industrial facilities, field construction, commissioning, outages, or a closely related environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to independently evaluate field conditions and develop practical solutions.
  • Confidence working directly with customers, contractors, and craft personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple field assignments while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule expectations.
  • Technical proficiency in areas such as thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, structural engineering, plant operations, or mechanics of materials.
  • Willingness and ability to travel 50%+ annually, with travel potentially reaching 60–75% during peak outage seasons.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain or maintain a passport and TWIC card.
Even Better If You Have

Experience with:

  • HRSGs, boilers, or power generation equipment
  • Power plant outages
  • Field construction or installation
  • Welding or weld-related engineering
  • OEM power-generation equipment
  • Project or site leadership
