Project Construction Coordinator / Field Engineer – Civil / Geotechnical

Day Rate: $600

Work Rotation: 4 weeks onsite / 1 week off

Position Overview

This contract role will be based at the Bagdad, AZ mine site and associated Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) jobsite. The Project Construction Coordinator / Field Engineer will support all phases of geotechnical project delivery, including field investigations, data analysis, design integration, and construction support.

The role has a strong emphasis on health, safety, environmental compliance (HSE), and effective coordination with contractors and site operations. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams throughout construction execution, turnover, pre-commissioning, mechanical completion, commissioning, and start-up, ensuring a smooth handoff to site operations.

This position reports to the Project Construction Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee geotechnical field investigations, construction activities, and sample collection
  • Manage brownfield exploratory works within an active operating mine, coordinating with multiple contractors
  • Coordinate SIMOPS with mine operations, including potholing activities using vacuum trucks to identify and document underground utilities prior to construction
  • Support Home Office Engineering and Engineer of Record teams with as-built documentation and redline drawings
  • Prepare daily reports and review subcontractor daily field reports, geotechnical data, and analyses
  • Collaborate with contractors to develop soil and rock material properties and assess slope and foundation stability
  • Ensure geotechnical findings are fully integrated into civil design through coordination with geotechnical, structural, mechanical, and electrical disciplines
  • Provide construction support by adapting designs to real-time field conditions
  • Identify potential scope changes and support the RFI process
  • Support Project Quality processes, including Field Observation Reports (FORs) and Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs)
  • Review contractor Project Work Plans and Health & Safety Plans
  • Build strong, collaborative working relationships with contractors and project stakeholders
  • Utilize geotechnical analysis software including GeoStudio, LPILE, GROUP, SHAFT, PLAXIS, Settle3, and MathCAD
  • Nature of Work: Provides technical and field support to the project FMI / PMT HSE team, addressing moderately complex issues with independent problem-solving
  • Collaboration: Regular interaction with site leadership, EPCM teams, contractors, Home Office Engineering, Engineer of Record, and subcontractor field and home office teams
  • Autonomy: Works under limited supervision with discretion to set priorities, objectives, and timelines impacting functional areas
  • Document Control: Reviews and comments on project documentation through Aconex and hard-copy systems, including drawings, specifications, schedules, RFP scopes, and three-week look-ahead plans (3WLAs); may participate in constructability and 3D model reviews
  • Commercial Oversight: Reviews and approves subcontractor Time & Materials timesheets for labor, equipment, materials, and supervision
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in project construction management

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of ten (10) years’ progressive experience in construction management, directly involved in field execution and coordination
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience on large-scale or mega projects (USD $1B+), particularly mineral processing facilities
  • Four (4) or more years of significant experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Proficiency with specialized geotechnical software
  • Prior EPCM and/or Owner’s Project Management Team experience
  • Heavy industrial construction project experience
  • Familiarity with Lean Construction and advanced construction planning methods
  • Understanding of labor requirements, forecasting, and productivity tracking
  • Experience developing and tracking KPIs and daily progress metrics
  • Proven ability to work effectively within integrated client, EPCM, and contractor teams
