About Wolfram Manufacturing

Wolfram Manufacturing is a precision CNC production shop and technology partner in Austin, TX. We specialize in medium-to-high volume metal parts, run advanced multi-axis equipment, and have been a Caron Engineering integration partner since 2011. Our OnTakt software connects Caron's TMAC tool monitoring data to shop floors across the industry - including some of the most demanding, security-conscious manufacturing facilities in the country. We take the work seriously, keep a tight team, and care about getting things right.

The Role

We are hiring a hands-on, customer-savvy Field Engineer to be the ambassador of our technology in the field. This role is the critical link between our Caron Engineering solutions (TMAC, DTect-IT, ToolConnect, and more) and OnTakt software, and the customers who rely on them. You will own the end-to-end integration process — every installation functional, documented, and aligned to the customer's specifications.

If a flawless system install satisfies you, if you have a strong aptitude for solving complex mechanical and electrical puzzles, and you like empowering users through technology - this role is for you.

When you're not on the road, you're not idle. You're in our own shop, helping implement, maintain, and troubleshoot the same manufacturing technologies internally.

This is a launch point, not a finished product. We'll train you on the systems, the controls, and the field craft - you bring the aptitude and the drive. You'll be working alongside an excellent team who have grown their careers with Wolfram over the past several years.

This is an individual contributor role. No direct reports.

What You Will Do
Installation Planning
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and scheduling with customers
  • Identify and order necessary components, tools, and hardware
  • Document installation planning activities in Jira
  • Ensure all preparatory documentation is ready before installation
Installation Execution
  • Develop and communicate a clear field plan
  • Install and test systems to ensure functionality and compliance within specifications
  • Conduct user training sessions tailored to customer needs
Post-Installation Documentation
  • Create detailed backups of ladder logic, system configurations, wiring diagrams, and programs
  • Compile photos and notes from the installation
  • Update and archive documentation for internal and customer reference
Customer Support
  • Respond to customer inquiries and issues promptly and effectively
  • Document and track customer support activities in Jira
  • Maintain accurate records of support interactions for troubleshooting and quality improvement
Internal Technology Support
  • Assist in the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of manufacturing technologies used within our own facility
  • Provide internal training sessions and documentation for staff utilizing these systems
  • Identify and recommend improvements to enhance the effectiveness of internal manufacturing technologies
  • Keep an eye on the Support Channel
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and work toward improving our preparation and execution processes and environment
What We Are Looking ForRequired
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proficiency in creating detailed and accurate documentation
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Customer-focused mindset with the ability to train effectively
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically — averaging 50%, up to 75% in busy seasons
  • US Person status (required for the nature of our work and customer facility access)
  • Ability to pass a standard background check — no felony convictions, no domestic violence or sexual assault misdemeanors. Some customer sites will also run their own facility-access background checks prior to arrival.
Strongly Preferred
  • Exposure to PLC programming or ladder logic — we'll train the rest
  • Exposure to Fanuc or Okuma OSP CNC controls — we'll train the rest
  • Experience with Jira or a similar documentation/ticketing system
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing & Mechanical Engineering Technology (MMET) or a closely related field — this is the path several of our best field engineers took, and it's the one we'd point a new grad toward.
What Success Looks Like in Year One
  • Early on: shadowing and co-installing with an experienced field engineer, building fluency with our systems and controls
  • By mid-year: leading straightforward installs independently, with support available for anything unusual
  • By year end: owning installs end-to-end, with documentation clean enough that anyone on the team could pick up where you left off
  • Between trips, you're a genuine asset in the shop, not just passing through
Compensation & Benefits

Hourly rate: $28 – $35/hr depending on experience.

Note: This is a non-exempt role, eligible for overtime.

Full benefits package including health coverage, 401(k) with company match, PTO, and shoe reimbursement.
