Job summary

United Rentals, Inc. is seeking a Field Diesel Mechanic to perform safe maintenance and repair of complex rental equipment across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems. You will travel to customer sites and maintain a professional service vehicle while documenting work orders daily.

The role emphasizes strong technical aptitude, hands-on troubleshooting, and cooperation with colleagues to train junior techs and support delivery tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 1–2 years of experience repairing/maintaining vehicles or equipment preferred.
• Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools.
• Strong mechanical background on engines and related systems.
• Must own tools applicable to position.
• Superior customer service and clear communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Safely maintain and repair a variety of complex rental equipment (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, diesel).
• Travel to customer sites for repair/maintenance; keep service vehicle clean and professional.
• Assist in training lower level technicians as needed.
• Document work orders and service activities daily, both in paper and electronic systems.
• Assist with pickup/delivery of equipment and parts.
• Other duties as assigned.
