Job summary

Astound is seeking a Field Deployment Technician to install, maintain, and troubleshoot network equipment including microwave radios, routers, switches, fiber and copper cabling, and WiFi systems, indoors and outdoors.

The role involves working at heights, participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation, performing site surveys, and ensuring safety and quality. Valid driver’s license and strong troubleshooting skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Hands-on networking experience required.
• Experience with RF concepts and equipment preferred.
• Proficient in configuring routers and switches.
• Familiar with fiber and copper cabling installations.
• Ability to perform site surveys and document as-builds.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform installations and troubleshoot Astound Broadband infrastructure from microwave/mm-wave radio headend to backbone equipment.
• Be part of a 24/7 on-call rotation.
• Handle connects/disconnects, upgrades/downgrades, relocations, and equipment install/remove.
• Install and troubleshoot radio, routers, switches, cabling (fiber/copper), and WiFi equipment (indoor/outdoor).
• Perform basic DC/AC installation and maintain safety/quality standards.
• Create build history/docs and perform site surveys; upload to internal Wiki.

Job description

The Field Deployment Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of network equipment including microwave and millimeter-wave radios, routers, switches, fiber and copper cabling, and WiFi systems, both indoors and outdoors. The position requires working at heights, participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation, performing site surveys, documenting as-builts, and ensuring all work meets safety and quality standards. Ideal candidates will have hands-on networking experience, strong troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently in fast-paced environments, and a valid driver's license.

• Perform installations, troubleshoot and repair of Astound Broadband Powered by Wave infrastructure including network connections from microwave and millimeter-wave radio headend to backbone equipment/hardware (interior and exterior)
• Part of a 24/7 on-call rotation
• Perform connects and disconnects, upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; install additional hand-offs and install or remove equipment
• Network Equipment Installation and Troubleshooting:
  • Radio installation - microwave and millimeter-wave equipment.
  • Routers and Switches
  • Cable Placement -Terminations and Splicing - Optical fiber and copper
  • WiFi Equipment - indoor-outdoor
• Basic DC/AC installation, knowledge and best practices
• As-Builts and Documentation - Create build history/document and upload to the internal Wiki
  • Perform Site Survey
• Various tasks and special projects assigned by manager associated with the organization and company with the emphasis of driving efficiency and optimization

What You Bring to the Table:

• Required to work at heights installing telecom equipment/materials
• RF awareness preferred (will certify)
• Basic to Intermediate experience is required in the following areas:
  • Physical, data-link and network protocols and architectures
  • Routers
  • Firewalls and switches
  • System load balancing and redundant system architecture.
• Able to set up and or design simple to complex network involving wireless equipment, Cisco switches and routers
• Demonstrates ability to diagnose and solve problems
• Exhibits the ability to follow direction and possesses the ability to follow through
• Must enjoy the challenge of technical concepts and communicate those concepts at varying levels
• Basic experience with LAN and WAN Technology
• Ability to comply with all Company implemented safety procedures
• Knowledge of basic mathematics and electronics
• Vision ability: close vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus
• Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organization skills
• Basic knowledge of DC components and best practices
• Basic understanding of the physical network layer, CAT 5e/6, 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, fiber optic cables, etc.
• Ability to work in fast-paced and dynamic environments with limited supervision
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time
• Ability to work with small components and wires to make cable connections
• Ability to make cable connections in tight spaces by bending, reaching, twisting
• Ability to differentiate between different sizes and colors of wires
• Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly
• Must have the ability to communicate by telephone, correspondence, and in person
• Must possess a good command of the English language, including excellent enunciation, grammar and lack of slang
• Must possess a Valid driver's license

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Base Salary: The base salary range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hour plus opportunities for benefits. The base pay range represents the low and high end of the hiring range for this job. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to relevant skills, experience, and capabilities.
