Job summary

Astound in Texas is seeking a Broadband Network Technician I to maintain and repair aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure. You will work outdoors daily, use bucket trucks and ladders, and restore service while supporting network reliability.

The role requires 2+ years of hands-on telecom field experience, a high school diploma, and a valid driver’s license. You will participate in a 24/5 on-call rotation and document field activities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of hands-on telecom field work, cabling, construction, or utilities (coax, fiber, or electrical).
• Maintain satisfactory driving record and valid driver's license.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Able to read and interpret maps and documentation.
• Able to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in varied conditions.
• Bucket Certified and Ohm’s familiarity preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure.
• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages for data, video, and telephone.
• Emergency restoration of coax, underground cable, and power supply maintenance.
• Maintain required field documentation and logs.
• Participate in a 24/5 on-call rotation.
• Operate bucket trucks and field equipment as needed.
• Install, replace, and repair cabling in aerial and buried plant.

Job description

• This is a hands‑on, field‑based role focused on maintaining and repairing aerial and underground coax and fiber infrastructure. The technician will work outdoors daily using bucket trucks, ladders, and hand tools to restore service, perform preventative maintenance, and support network reliability.
• The Broadband Network Technician I is responsible for detecting, troubleshooting and resolving system outages for data, video, and telephone.
• This role will be responsible for emergency restoration of coax, underground cable, maintenance of power supply, leakage and splicing.
• The BNT I is required to maintain documentation as needed.
• This role participates in a 24/5 on‑call rotation.
• Detect, troubleshoot and resolve system outages in aerial and/or underground capacities related to transmission levels, signal losses and off‑air interference.
• Prepare and perform emergency aerial and/or underground coaxial cable restoration due to variables such as cable breaks and/or damage

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs
• Work performed in both climate‑controlled and non‑climate‑controlled environments, with potential exposure to heat, cold, dust, damp conditions, uneven surfaces, heights, and moving vehicles
• Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, and driving required
• Ability to safely climb and work from ladders for extended periods of time
• Frequent reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, and using hands above and below shoulder level
• Ability to bend, twist, kneel, squat, crawl, and maintain various body positions and perform fine motor tasks, forceful gripping, and limited keyboarding
• Perform preventative maintenance (power supply, actives) in the form of testing, balancing, alignment and adjustments of components or equipment
• Monitor, record and repair cable leakage, complying with applicable regulations
• Observe and assist co‑workers with fiber splicing activities
• Complete and distribute required documentation, such as work orders and daily logs
• Install, replace, and repaircoaxial and fiber optic cabling, including aerial and buried plant
• Performpole transfers, span replacements, and drop repairs
• Operatebucket trucks, ladders, and field equipment
• Participation in a 24/7 on‑call rotation
• Other duties as assigned
