Job summary

The Mayor and City Council of Baltimore is seeking a Crime Laboratory Technician II to investigate crime scenes and collect physical evidence for laboratory examination and court presentation.

This full-time position requires a bachelor’s degree in a related science and two years of experience, with rotating shifts and on-call duties. A Maryland Class C driver’s license is required; provisional licenses are not accepted.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminalistics, chemistry, biology, physics or a related science from an accredited college or university.
• Two years of experience in the detection, collection and preservation of criminal evidence for court use.
• Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state driver's license acceptable to the Office of Risk Management is required.
• Provisional driver's license or learner permits are not acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Investigates the scene of crimes and collects physical evidence for laboratory examination and court presentation.
• Work involves no supervisory duties and responsibilities; incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior.
• Work is performed at crime locations with potential exposure to weather extremes, dangerous districts and hostile individuals.
• Rotating shifts and on-call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
