Job summary

Fishbeck, Thompson, Carr & Huber is seeking a full-time Construction Inspector to join our Civil Field team in Indianapolis, IN. You will perform field observation and documentation for INDOT roadway and bridge projects, as well as municipal utilities, with travel and outdoor work.

This role requires a technical degree in civil engineering or construction management, field experience, and the ability to read plans, complete DWRs, and communicate non-conformances to senior staff.

Qualifications

Requires 2+ years of field inspection experience on highway projects.
Familiarity with highway construction specifications.
Ability to read complex plans, specs, and shop drawings.
Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility inspection/testing.
INDOT or civil engineering construction-related degree preferred.
ACI Grade I certification preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and digital inspection tools (Bluebeam, PlanGrid, AASHTOWare, Appia).
Willingness to travel and work outdoors.

Responsibilities

Prepare detailed Daily Work Reports (DWRs) documenting work status, materials, and site conditions.
Complete calculations, sketches, and forms per INDOT specifications.
Read and interpret complex plans and verify construction compliance.
Communicate non-compliance issues to senior staff and assist with RFIs.
Serve as liaison between contractors and senior technicians/engineers to resolve constructability issues.
Collaborate with project teams, including engineers, technicians, survey staff, and stakeholders.
Work closely with senior technicians and engineers to ensure proper execution of project designs.
