Job description

Field Communications Infrastructure TechnicianLocation: Wichita, KS | Type: Contract | Compensation: $25–35 | Hours: 40Your day in the fieldPicture this: you arrive on site, review the engineering package, and map out how the communications racks will come together—sometimes wall-mounted, sometimes a full multi-rack build. You lay in critical power and grounding, set cable trays and conduits, and prepare every pathway so installation runs smoothly. As the day unfolds, you might route and terminate fiber, place telecom cabling, mount LTE antennas, or install sensors, radios, computers, and supporting communications systems—often in fast-paced, outdoor environments where the weather can change quickly. When systems power up, your troubleshooting instincts take over. Using schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical manuals, you test, align, calibrate, and repair communications and audio equipment—down to the component level when needed. You support testing, verification, inspections, and commissioning until every system performs as designed. Along the way, you keep field documentation sharp with redline updates, and you tackle additional installation and technical support tasks as assigned. What you’ll tacklePrepare sites and assist contractors with communications rack installation (single wall-mounted to multi-rack setups)Install critical power circuits, grounding, convenience outlets, cable trays, conduits, and related infrastructure per engineered drawingsSupport fiber optic cabling, telecom infrastructure, monitors, voice recorder systems, and other communications equipmentAssist with LTE antenna activities and establish cable pathways for communications infrastructureRemove and replace electrical components, wire bundles, terminal blocks, connectors, and associated hardwareTest and troubleshoot electrical/electronic systems using schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical publicationsTroubleshoot, align, calibrate, and repair communications and audio systems down to the component levelSupport testing, operational verification, inspections, and commissioning to confirm full functionalityInstall sensors, radios, computers, cabling, and comms systems in dynamic field conditions and varying weatherMaintain accurate field documentation and redline updates during construction and installTake on additional field installation and technical support duties as assignedWhat you bringHigh school diploma or GEDValid driver’s licenseWillingness and ability to travel up to 100%Ability to lift at least 50 lbs and work outdoors, including in extreme weatherBasic skills with Microsoft Office, internet, and email5+ years preferred supporting fiber optics, telecom systems, RF communications, or complex electronicsPreferred exposure to OTDR testing, telecom cabling, wireless systems, or comms infrastructureAbility to read/interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and technical documentationStrong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and field coordination skillsPreferred training/experience: Military, trade/technical school, or advanced electronics; experience with radar, radio, telecommunications, networking, or navigational systemsLife at System OneSystem One and our subsidiaries (including Joulé and Mountain Ltd.) deliver outsourced services and workforce solutions throughout North America.
