Job summary

City of Sandy Springs is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer I to join the Community Development team in Sandy Springs, GA. The role involves field inspections, investigating potential violations, and educating residents and businesses about city requirements.

You will document findings, prepare case materials, and collaborate with other departments to resolve issues, with opportunities for advancement as you gain experience and certifications.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED and 6+ months in code enforcement or related field.
• Must understand investigative principles, documentation, due process.
• Ability to interpret policies, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Must obtain ICC PMHI within 18 months and GACE Level I within 24 months.

Responsibilities

• Conduct property maintenance inspections and investigations related to zoning, housing, and commercial areas.
• Respond to citizen concerns, complaints, and City Council requests.
• Visit properties to identify and document potential code violations.
• Explain City codes to residents, owners, businesses, and contractors.
• Promote voluntary compliance and resolve issues.
• Prepare reports, photos, case docs, and enforcement materials.
• Issue summonses with supervisory approval.
• Educate residents at neighborhood meetings about codes.
• Collaborate with City departments on enforcement activities.
• Testify in municipal court when needed.
