Job summary

Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. is seeking a Field Chemist to serve as the technical lead for chemical characterization, hazardous waste determinations, transportation compliance, and regulatory oversight at client sites.

The role guides junior staff, ensures DOE/EPA/DOT/OSHA and state compliance, and supports disposal activities; duties include field work at plants, labs, and customer sites. This is not a laboratory-based chemist position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, environmental science, natural science, or related field.
• Must have valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (with 8-hour refresher) or ability to pass course upon hire.
• Ability to obtain a Class B CDL.
• Ability to pass respirator fit test.

Responsibilities

• Lead chemical characterization activities for laboratory chemicals and unknown materials.
• Make hazardous waste determinations under RCRA.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with DOT, EPA, DOE, and state requirements.
• Coordinate with disposal facilities and transport providers.
• Safely operate vehicles per DOT and state/federal rules.
• Input data using company software and prepare packing lists and manifests.
• Assist with lab packs, HHW collections, and lab cleanouts.
