Job description

Turn complex waste streams into safe, compliant solutions

You like being out in the field, not stuck behind a bench – and you know your chemistry makes a real difference when it’s applied where the risks are real.

As a Field Chemist, you’ll be the expert on-site at customer locations, identifying, segregating, and packaging hazardous and non-hazardous waste for safe transport and disposal.

You’ll lead tech/chemist teams, solve unknowns, and make the call on how to handle materials under strict EPA, DOT, and TSDF requirements.

Your work keeps people safe, customers compliant, and the environment protected.

If you know waste streams and lab packs – or you’re ready to step from the lab into the field – we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You’ll handle a mix of field-based chemical and waste-management projects for technical customers:

  • Lab packing and consolidation projects at customer sites
  • Chemical relocations and decontamination work
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams
  • Unknown chemical characterizations and segregation
  • Drum preparation, inspection, and shipment readiness
  • Customer-specific packaging and disposal requirements
  • Waste-related paperwork and compliance documentation
  • Best-management-practice recommendations for facility waste

You’ll work within EPA, DOT, and TSDF restrictions on packaging and shipment – where details matter and decisions count.

This is hands-on chemistry in the real world, not theory on a whiteboard.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and participate in Technician/Chemist teams on customer projects
  • Perform field work including consolidation, lab packs, chemical relocations, and decontamination
  • Characterize, segregate, pack, label, and prepare waste drums for pickup and transportation
  • Identify and characterize unknown chemicals for proper handling and disposal
  • Ensure drum counts are accurate and conditions are shippable per US DOT and company policies
  • Maintain overall quality control of waste materials to be shipped
  • Interface directly with clients to understand disposal and packaging requirements
  • Obtain and record accurate billing information for proper customer invoicing
  • Complete all administrative and regulatory paperwork related to waste transportation
  • Promote and follow safe work practices, policies, and processes at all times
  • Suggest best waste-management practices to support facility compliance
  • Work at one or more customer locations up to 40 hours per week
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field, or a minimum of two years’ experience in waste disposal
  • Prior waste characterization experience preferred
  • Current OSHA 40-hour and DOT Hazardous Materials certifications preferred
  • Ability to pass a respirator qualification test
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds and move 300-pound drums using a drum cart
  • Professional attitude with effective communication skills
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills
  • Ability to multi-task with good organizational skills
  • Ability to travel for one to two weeks once a quarter
  • Ability to drive/operate a small box truck with medical card
The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’ve worked field-side or in environmental services, doing lab packs, segregating chemicals, and dealing with real-world waste streams. You’re comfortable in PPE, know your way around drums and manifests, and can talk confidently with customers about their waste and compliance.

Maybe you’re a bench chemist who has already stepped into the field – or you’ve been the go-to person for waste characterization and now want more responsibility and ownership in front of the client.

  • Chemistry degree or related field experience
  • Lab pack operations
  • Waste characterization
  • Hazardous waste disposal
  • EPA compliance
  • DOT hazardous materials rules
  • TSDF restrictions
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER
  • Manifest preparation
  • Drum handling
Why This Opportunity?

This is a role where your chemistry knowledge shows up in the field, on real jobs, with real impact on safety and compliance.

You get variety – different sites, different waste streams, and the chance to lead teams and own projects, not just follow a script.

You’ll build a powerful, niche skill set in hazardous waste, transportation, and environmental compliance that stays in demand across the industry.

Must be able to pass a respirator qualification test.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds and move 300-pound drums using a drum cart.

Must be able to travel for one (1) to two (2) weeks once a quarter.

Must be able to drive/operate a small box truck and hold a valid medical card.
