Job Description: Field Chemist

Location: East Liverpool, OH

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (occasional overtime; rare weekend work with notice)

Apex Systems is recruiting for a Field Chemist to support hazardous waste management operations in and around East Liverpool, OH. This is an excellent opportunity for recent graduates or early‑career professionals with a science background who want hands‑on experience in the environmental and chemical services field. Training is provided, including CDL preparation.

What You’ll Do

As a Field Chemist, you’ll work directly in the field supporting waste identification, packaging, transportation, and disposal activities. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform fieldwork to segregate, pack, label, and manifest hazardous waste for shipment and disposal
  • Lead and support field jobs and waste pick‑ups, including customer sites
  • Drive a box truck to and from customer locations (Class B CDL required; training provided)
  • Review and approve lab pack inventories for incineration and third‑party disposal
  • Partner with Account Representatives to prepare disposal quotes
  • Work directly with customers to resolve discrepancies related to loose waste or lab packs
  • Ensure work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable DOT and EPA regulations
  • Travel as needed; overnight stays may occasionally be required
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field
    • Chemistry preferred
    • Environmental Science with coursework in organic or inorganic chemistry also acceptable
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Comfortable using computers and standard business software (Word, Excel, Access)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional overtime or rare weekend work (advance notice provided)
Preferred/Nice-to-Have Experience
  • Knowledge of DOT and EPA regulations
  • Experience leading teams or field crews
  • Prior truck driving, forklift, industrial, or environmental field experience
  • (not required—training provided)
