Job summary

Commonwealth of Kentucky's Public Protection Cabinet, Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, seeks a Building Code Field Inspector I to enforce building codes in the West Kentucky region. The role inspects new construction, coordinates with officials, prepares inspection reports, and supports code enforcement initiatives.

The position requires knowledge of construction and codes, strong communication, and independence, with occasional travel to sites and offices across the region.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Two years of drafting or supervising building construction experience.
• Associate degree in architecture, engineering or related field can substitute for the experience.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new building construction for compliance in areas like structural assembly, energy, mechanical, fire protection and life safety.
• Consult with superintendents, construction managers, owners and other officials about building construction.
• Schedule inspections and prepare new construction inspection reports.
• Research building codes to develop knowledge of codes and standards.
• Work with local building officials, other field inspectors and field supervisors.
