Job summary

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a temporary Staff Archaeologist to join our Southern California Cultural Resources Program. You will lead field survey crews, coordinate activities, and support field and office tasks across renewable energy, oil & gas, and infrastructure projects.

Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor’s in Anthropology/Archaeology with field leadership experience, knowledge of CRM regulations, and a willingness to travel throughout Southern California.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or a closely related field.
• One year of experience in cultural resources field activities, including leading archaeology crews.
• Experience managing projects across various project types, sizes, regions, and agencies.
• Experience in CRM with multiple project types and regulatory environments.
• Experience with the archaeology of Southern California and knowledge of NEPA, NAGPRA, and NHPA provisions.
• Current valid driver’s license and ability to operate a 4WD vehicle on rugged roads.
• Ability to travel, perform fieldwork, and carry equipment up to 40 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Lead field survey crews and coordinate day-to-day field activities.
• Contribute to technical reports, work plans, proposals, and literature reviews.
• Provide QA/QC review of field documents, site forms, and reports.
• Develop project deliverables in collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
• Promote safety and communicate issues to management for timely resolution.
• Coordinate with clients, agency representatives, and project managers.
• Travel to field sites and supervise data collection, processing, and analysis.
