Field Application Scientist/Sr. Field Application Scientist

Spear Bio, founded in 2021, is a well-funded and rapidly growing start-up headquartered in Woburn, Massachusetts. Our proprietary technology,Successive Proximity Extension Amplification Reaction (SPEAR), is a novel wash-free immunoassay platform, offering unprecedented sensitivity. We are dedicated to revolutionizing early disease diagnosis and monitoring by providing scalable, ultrasensitive solutions that deliver unparalleled accuracy in measuring low-abundant biomarkers, enabling clinicians and researchers to improve patient outcomes and advance global health.

We are looking to hire a client-facing and technically savvy individual to enable customer success and ensure overall product performance for Spear Bio and are open to either a seasoned Field Application Scientist or a Senior Field Application Scientist. In addition to providing day-to-day application support, the Sr./FAS will be the primary liaison for complex, high-value, and strategic customer accounts and work with the Head of Application Support to guide strategy, planning, and cross-functional collaborations. The Sr./FAS is expected to become a subject matter expert on Spear Bio’s platform, technology, and applications. This role is based in the greater Boston area and will not be able to accommodate a remote work arrangement.

Responsibilities:
  • Supports pre- and post-sale technical interactions with customers, delivers presentations, demos and trainings, and provides remote technical support.
  • Owns technical account management for specific key customers.
  • Supports and trains application scientists within partner organizations, ensuring high quality development and delivery of technical presentations, trainings, and support to distributor accounts.
  • Works cross-functionally to facilitate creation of technical documentation and marketing collateral, generating data and authoring IFUs, product data sheets, application notes, and conference presentations.
  • Provides deep product knowledge to solve customer challenges. Triages issues, leads troubleshooting investigations, and drives solutions.
  • Works with the Head of Applications Support to implement efficient systems to track customer success and collect feedback for continuous improvement of products and technical support.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of competitors and key applications. Works with Product Management to provide voice-of-customer feedback on product improvements, and strategies to drive adoption of Spear Bio products.
Requirements:
  • PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or Bioengineering with 3-4+ years of industry experience or BS/MS with 6+ years of industry experience focused on selling, delivering, and supporting technical services or products to customers within the biotech or diagnostic industries
  • Strong understanding of immunoassay applications, technologies, methods, and strategies
  • Liquid handling and automated assay experience preferred
  • Experience adapting novel techniques, software, and instrumentation to specific workflows to enable research & development or clinical programs
  • In-depth knowledge of neurology, immunology, or oncology with a strong network in drug development, academic and contract research world preferred

  • Strong interpersonal (verbal communication) skills with ability to put customers at ease, listen attentively to acquire feedback, and tailor communication to specific audiences
  • Interest in teaching and mentoring others with the ability to convey scientific information in a clear and concise manner through written documents and presentations
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and in teams, balance competing priorities, and adapt quickly to changes
  • Ability to travel (up to 50%)- primarily domestic/East Coast, with occasional international travel.
  • This role will work onsite from our Woburn, MA office when not traveling.
