This position reports to

Sales Support Manager - Technical Sales

Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will plan and implement proactive promotional activities for the target audience to create market demand and need for specific features or products. You will identify and develop sales opportunities by introducing, presenting, and educating the target audience about ABB products and tools. Building long-term customer relationships is also key.

The work model for this role is remote, based in the San Diego, Orange County CA district.

You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Collaborating with consultants, end users, utility and EPC/DBC engineers to define electrical project needs, provide design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting, and educate on ABB solutions to gain acceptance into project specifications.
  • Reviewing project specifications and customer requirements to deliver electrical solutions including diagrams, layouts, equipment specifications, and project budgets for Low and medium voltage applications.
  • Developing accurate estimates of electrical project budgets, incorporating best practices.
  • Providing local support for products such as MV/LV switchgear, transformers, motor control, power monitoring, UPS, ATS, PSG, and generator circuit breakers.
  • Having knowledge of short circuit, coordination, and arc flash mitigation concepts, illustrating their benefits via tools like SKM or Easy Power.
  • Creating and editing presentations for Lunch & Learns and using SFDC regularly.
  • Educating customers and confidently presenting complex technical concepts to engineers, contractors, and users.
  • Sharing customer feedback on product opportunities, gaps, and market trends with leadership, acting as a Product Champion.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time to visit customers locally.

Qualifications for the role

  • B.S. in electrical engineering or related field, with at least three years of experience in electrical distribution.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, capable of resolving technical issues considering multiple viewpoints.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Enjoys problem solving and developing new customer relationships.
  • Self-starter, accountable, able to work independently.
  • Effective multi-tasker on projects and assignments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio.
  • Ability to establish partnerships with regional engineering communities.

Desired qualifications include prior experience in electrical power systems at major companies or utilities, and knowledge of industry standards like ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL.
