Location: University of Washington Botanic Gardens, Washington Park Arboretum - Seattle, WA

The University of Washington Botanic Gardens, part of the School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS), seeks multiple temporary Fiddleheads Forest School Summer Teachers (Program Assistant, NE H NI SEIU 925 Non Supv).

Program Overview: The Fiddleheads Forest School is an outdoor preschool for ages three to six, fostering wonder and individual development in a natural setting. We aim to create a dynamic, child-driven curriculum that adapts to each child's needs.

General Duties: Assist teachers in implementing a weekly, part-day nature preschool program, primarily outdoors, with up to 14 students, Monday-Friday, 8am-2pm.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Co-lead activities for 4-6 year olds aligned with established curriculum.
  2. Assist students with nature-based activities to explore and learn about the natural world.
  3. Model curiosity and professionalism, ensuring student safety and well-being.
  4. Maintain clear communication with staff, students, and families.
  5. Prepare and maintain teaching materials.
  6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of full-time experience or equivalent education/experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with early learners in a formal setting.
  • Bachelor's degree or training in related fields such as early childhood education, environmental education, botany, etc.
  • Creativity, flexibility, and a positive attitude towards working with children and families.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Ability to stand, bend, sit for periods, lift up to 25 pounds, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Must meet licensing requirements for childcare in Washington.
  • Current pediatric First Aid and CPR certification required.
