Qualifications

• 8+ years of book publishing experience or the equivalent.
• Strong editing and copywriting skills.
• Extensive contacts in writing, journalism, agent communities and beyond.
• Understanding of P&Ls, production schedules and terms.
• Deep engagement with the fiction landscape and market.

Responsibilities

• Publish 8-10 books per year, including lead titles.
• Commission and acquire a range of titles with strong potential.
• Build relationships with literary agents, writers, and subsidiary rights directors and negotiate major terms.
• Develop and edit manuscripts at structural and line level.
• Shape and build authors' careers across titles.
• Collaborate across departments and with external partners.
• Prepare materials for launch meetings and support selling points and pitches.
• Maintain publishing schedules for a full list of titles.
• Mentor colleagues and participate in team development.
• Supervise one employee in collaboration with a teammate.
