Job summary

Evolving Solution Services is seeking a Fiberglass Repair Technician in Elkhart, IN, to inspect and restore fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces used in pontoon boat production. The successful candidate will perform critical repairs while ensuring that the work meets quality, safety, and production standards.

This role includes responsibilities such as mixing repair materials, sanding, and blending colors to match existing surfaces.

Job description

The Fiberglass Repair Technician inspects, repairs, refinishes, and restores fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces used in pontoon boat production. This role identifies defects, performs the appropriate repair process, and delivers work that meets established quality, appearance, safety, and production standards.

Responsibilities:

• Inspect fiberglass and gelcoat surfaces for scratches, chips, cracks, voids, gouges, air pockets, contour issues, and other defects.
• Prepare repair areas by grinding, sanding, cleaning, masking, and protecting surrounding finished surfaces.
• Mix and apply gelcoat, resin, catalyst, and other repair materials according to established processes and safety requirements.
• Perform fiberglass and gelcoat repairs using hand tools, pneumatic tools, grinders, sanders, buffers, and related equipment.
• Match and blend gelcoat colors so completed repairs integrate with surrounding surfaces.
• Sand, buff, and polish repaired areas to restore the required gloss, contour, and appearance.
• Inspect completed work and correct sanding marks, haze, scratches, color variation, or other visible defects before release.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, report recurring quality or safety concerns, and assist wherever needed to prevent production delays.

• Fiberglass and gelcoat repair expertise, including sanding, buffing, polishing, and finish restoration
• Color perception and attention to detail sufficient to produce repairs that are difficult to detect
• Ability to identify defects, select the proper repair method, and complete work efficiently
• Safe tool and chemical handling, dependability, adaptability, communication, and teamwork

Required education and experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience performing fiberglass, gelcoat, composite, automotive body, or similar surface repair and finishing work

Preferred education and experience:

• Marine industry experience is a plus, but not required
• Experience with gelcoat color matching and blending, surface preparation, sanding, buffing, polishing, and cosmetic defect correction

Supervisory Responsibilities

• None

Physical Demands:

• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Lifting and handling tools, repair equipment, materials, and components up to 35 lbs
• Frequent reaching, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working in varied positions while completing repairs

Work environment:

• Manufacturing and boat-production environment with work performed at different stages of the production process.
• Work may be performed inside or outside year-round, with exposure to fiberglass and sanding dust, gelcoat, resins, catalysts, solvents, fumes, dirt, moderate to high noise, moving equipment, vibrations, and seasonal weather conditions.
• Required PPE may include appropriate eye, hand, hearing, respiratory, and skin protection. All necessary PPE and training will be provided.
