Job summary

Swyft Fiber is seeking a Fiber Technician to install, troubleshoot, service, and repair telecommunications equipment and fiber optic cable in Ball, Louisiana.

The role requires 2+ years of field experience, a valid driver's license, and willingness to work outdoors in varying weather, plus overtime and up to 20% travel as needed.

You will test circuits, diagnose issues, repair or replace faulty equipment, and demonstrate operation to customers while upholding safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of field experience as a telecommunications technician required.
  • Working knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure required.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic cable preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Travel up to 20% may be required.
  • Ability to work long hours including overtime and weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Tests circuits and components to isolate malfunctions using hand tools.
  • Tests and repairs equipment to ensure proper function and conformance to specs.
  • Drives crew trucks to and from work sites.
  • Inspects equipment regularly to ensure proper functioning.
  • Repairs or replaces faulty equipment.
  • Removes and remakes connections to change circuit layouts per work orders.
  • Demonstrates equipment to customers and responds to inquiries.
  • Analyzes test readings and trouble reports to determine repair methods.
  • Adjusts or modifies equipment to meet customer requests.

  • Tests and repairs, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
  • Drives crew trucks to and from work areas.
  • Inspects equipment on a regular basis in order to ensure proper functioning.
  • Repairs or replaces faulty equipment.
  • Removes and remakes connections in order to change circuit layouts, following work orders or diagrams.
  • Demonstrates equipment to customers and explains how it is to be used and responds to any inquiries or complaints.
  • Analyzes test readings, computer printouts, and trouble reports to determine equipment repair needs and required repair methods.
  • Adjusts or modifies equipment to enhance equipment performance or to respond to customer requests.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day.
  • Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces (i.e., attics, crawl spaces, utility holes).
Physical Requirements

This is a physically demanding, Medium-Heavy position requiring prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, twisting, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; the ability to work at elevated heights and on uneven terrain; and the ability to safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, and vehicles. The position requires working outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions and may involve work in remote locations.

Post-Offer Physical Assessment

Due to the physical demands of this position, all candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment will be required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-placement functional capacity evaluation to verify their ability to safely perform the essential physical functions of the job.
