Job summary

Douglas Fast Net is seeking an experienced fiber splicer to join our team in Eugene, OR. The role involves splicing SM/MM fibers in varied environments, testing with OTDRs, and coordinating with engineering leadership on outages and maintenance.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of fiber splicing or broadband technician experience, can lift heavy loads, and holds a valid driver's license. A strong customer focus and willingness to work after hours are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience working as a fiber splicer or broadband technician for a minimum of two years.
• Able to meet physical demands: lift up to 100 pounds intermittently, 50 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently.
• Clean driving record and valid driver’s license.
• Ability to read engineering and construction documentation.
• Live within 30 minutes of service territory.
• Knowledge of aerial and underground construction concepts.
• Ability to learn new software and applications used in the industry.
• Professional appearance and customer service oriented.
• Willing to work after hours and in urgent situations.
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Responsibilities

• Fuse or mechanically splice SM or MM fibers in multiple environments including aerial and underground; terminate fiber using various methods.
• Assess current plant infrastructure and determine best construction methods.
• Place main fiber cables into splice case and terminate fibers.
• Perform testing utilizing OTDRs and other equipment.
• Work with Engineering and OSP Leadership to perform splicing as directed.
• Provide accurate and detailed reports of splicing activity in a timely manner.
• Able to perform installations in residences and businesses following DFN standards.
• On-call rotation for emergencies, teardowns, and maintenance; direct field work as needed.
• Maintain safety and a positive work ethic; operate a company vehicle including bucket truck.
• Maintain knowledge of cables and supplies and follow safety regulations.
