Job summary

TriTechne, Inc. is seeking a Fiber Splicer to perform independent fusion splicing of single- and multi-mode fiber in outdoor field environments across regional sites.

You’ll interpret fiber schematics, perform tests with OTDRs and light sources, and document splices and test results to ensure robust connectivity. The role requires 2–4 years of telecom fiber splicing experience, proficiency with fusion splicers and OTDRs, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical fiber training preferred.
  • 2–4 years of fiber splicing experience in telecom field environments.
  • Proficiency with fusion splicers, OTDRs, and fiber testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber construction, testing, and documentation standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform independent fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber in aerial and underground environments.
  • Conduct comprehensive fiber testing using OTDRs, power meters, and light sources.
  • Interpret fiber schematics, splicing plans, route diagrams, and color codes to ensure proper connectivity.
  • Create accurate splice documentation, as-builts, and test records per project requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and restore network outages to minimize service disruption.
  • Coordinate with construction, engineering, and network operations teams to meet milestones.
  • Mentor Fiber Splicer I employees and support job site safety practices.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and safely operate splicing and testing equipment.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to support emergency restorations.

Job description

What You’ll Do
  • Perform independent fusion splicing of single-mode and multi-mode fiber in aerial and underground environments.

What You’ll Bring
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical fiber training preferred.
  • 2–4 years of fiber splicing experience in telecommunications field environments.
  • Proficiency with fusion splicers (e.g., Fujikura, Sumitomo), OTDRs, and fiber testing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of fiber construction, testing, and documentation standards.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; CDL preferred.
  • Preferred Qualifications: FOA Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) or equivalent certification.
  • Experience with FTTH, backbone, and ISP/OSP fiber projects.
  • Familiarity with GIS-based documentation systems and digital reporting tools.
Working Conditions

Field-based role with outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Regional travel with occasional overnight stays.

Participation in an on-call rotation for emergency repairs and cutovers.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 75 lbs.
  • Prolonged kneeling, crouching, and sitting in splice trailers or vaults.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and elevated work areas.
