Job summary

Congruex is seeking a Fiber Splicing Technician III (Data Center) for its West Jordan, UT operations. The role splices, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs fiber optic cables within data center environments.

The position is full-time, non-exempt, offering $35–$50 per hour, a $1,000 sign-on bonus, full benefits, and a $150 daily per diem for non-local candidates. Candidates should have 3-5+ years in fiber splicing and strong practical and safety skills.

Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of fiber optic splicing in data center or outside plant environments.
• Advanced fiber splicing techniques including ribbon and single-fiber fusion.
• Read splice diagrams and perform OTDR and power meter testing with documentation.
• Ability to perform physical labor, climb ladders/poles, and work in confined spaces.
• Read blueprints for cable placement and differentiate fiber color codes.
• Self-starter with strong teamwork, problem solving and decision making.
• Basic math for measurements and timecards; follow directions in multitask role.
• Commit to safety in high places and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faulty cable plant; identify, detect, and resolve issues.
• Provide field notes and proposals for client review and approval.
• Perform End-of-Line Network Testing for balanced signal transmission.
• Prep and label cables to minimize installation errors.
• Construct cases and enclosures for protective housing of equipment.
• Match colors when splicing fiber optic cables for correct connections.
• Route fibers to minimize signal loss and optimize cable management.
• Splice off-color and multiple cables in one enclosure.
• Read splice matrices and redline maps to understand routes.
• Splice and activate underground and aerial lines; pull through duct packages.
• Perform rehab on gel-filled or refurbished enclosures as needed.
• Document changes; swap or audit cases and manage components.

Fiber Splicing Technician III (Data Center)

Employment Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Job Summary

The Fiber Splicing Technician (Data Center) splices, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs fiber optic cables.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faulty cable plant: identify, detect, and resolve known performance issues.
• Provide field notes and proposals for client review and approval.
• Perform End-of-Line Network Testing to ensure balanced signal transmission.
• Prep and label cables to minimize installation errors.
• Construct fiber cases and enclosures for protective housing of equipment.
• Match colors when splicing fiber optic cables to ensure correct connections.
• Arrange and secure cables within enclosures to prevent tangling or damage.
• Seal and secure enclosures to protect equipment from environmental elements.
• Read splice matrices and redline maps to understand fiber routes and assignments.
• Splice off-color and multiple cables in one enclosure.
• Route fibers from one tray to another to optimize cable management and minimize signal loss.
• Splice at tie points and jumper cases, connecting fibers from different cables.
• Connect jumper cables between jumper cases.
• Rehab gel-filled cases, refurbishing or rehabilitating enclosures used in fiber optic networks.
• Mark up or annotate drawings or documents with changes, updates, or corrections.
• Swap and audit cases, replacing equipment cases or enclosures as needed.
• Pull cable through existing duct packages or conduits, manually, by blowing, or mechanically; splice and activate underground and aerial lines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 3-5+ years of experience splicing fiber optic cable in data center or outside plant (OSP) environments.
• Advanced knowledge of fiber optic splicing techniques, including ribbon and single-fiber fusion splicing.
• Proficient in reading splice diagrams, performing OTDR and power meter testing, and maintaining accurate splice documentation.
• Ability to perform physical labor, climb ladders and poles, and work in confined spaces.
• Read blueprints for cable placement and utility locations.
• Distinguish between different colors for fiber connection.
• Self-starter, internally motivated to achieve objectives.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and teamwork.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and timecards.
• Follow directions and maintain organization in a multitasking environment.
• Work safely in high places and confined spaces.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Work outdoors, subject to inclement weather.
• Maintain visual and audible contact with crew members and other personnel to ensure safe coordination.
• Work around heavy equipment and machinery.
• Stand or walk for long periods.
• Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Perform bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and twisting in awkward positions.
• Stand, walk, sit, or otherwise be in demanding positions for extended periods.
• Wear safety boots, safety glasses, hard hat, and applicable safety gear.
