Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a Fiber Splicer for New Albany, OH, to perform fusion and mechanical splicing of single‑mode fiber in splice enclosures, cabinets, pedestals, and panels on site.

You will test fiber with OTDR, power meter, and VFL; troubleshoot faults; and document splice logs and test results.

The role requires 1–3+ years of splicing experience, ability to read construction prints, a valid driver’s license with willingness to travel to New Albany sites; outdoor work in varying weather.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs

Responsibilities

• Fusion and mechanical splicing of single‑mode fiber in enclosures, cabinets, pedestals, and panels
• Fiber testing using OTDR, power meter/light source, iOLM, and VFL to verify signal
• Troubleshoot fiber faults, breaks, and signal loss; interpret tests to isolate issues
• Document splice logs, fiber assignments, test results, and as‑built updates
• Coordinate with OSP crews to identify splice points, slack storage, and enclosure placement
• Maintain safety compliance with OSHA, NESC, and company standards
• Operate fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, scopes, and power meters

Key Responsibilities

• Fusion & mechanical splicing of single‑mode fiber in splice enclosures, cabinets, pedestals, and panels.
• Fiber testing using OTDR, power meter/light source, iOLM, and VFL to confirm signal performance.
• Troubleshooting fiber faults, breaks, and signal loss; interpreting test results to isolate issues.
• Documentation including splice logs, fiber assignments, test results, and as‑built updates.
• Field coordination with OSP crews to identify splice points, slack storage, and enclosure placement.
• Safety compliance following OSHA, NESC, and company safety standards.
• Equipment operation including fusion splicers, cleavers, OTDRs, scopes, and power meters.

Required Qualifications

• 1–3+ years of fiber splicing experience in OSP or ISP environments.
• Strong understanding of fiber color codes, buffer tubes, and splice tray organization.
• Ability to read and interpret OSP construction prints and splice schematics.
• Proficiency with OTDR and power meter testing.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ribbon splicing experience.
• Familiarity with FTTH architectures (Calix, Adtran, etc.).
• FOA CFOT or ETA Fiber Optics Technician certification.
• Experience working in data centers or telecom huts.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Field‑based role supporting New Albany builds.
• Work may include nights, weekends, or on‑call rotations depending on project needs.
• Must be comfortable working in aerial lifts, manholes, and outdoor conditions.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of New Albany, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $34.00/hr.
