Job summary

Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is seeking a skilled Fiber Optic Foreman local to the Portland, OR area to lead underground and aerial fiber projects. You will manage crews, interpret plans, and ensure safety compliance while delivering on-time results for diverse clients including businesses and healthcare facilities.

You will operate specialized equipment and maintain detailed production records; expect 75% travel and on-call availability.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: Proven experience leading field crews in telecommunications or underground utility construction.
  • Technical: Ability to read blueprints and operate fiber blowing/pulling equipment.
  • Licensing: Valid Driver's License; CDL preferred for heavy equipment usage.
  • Availability: Willingness to travel 75% and be on-call for emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead underground and aerial crews in fiber blowing, conduit pulling, and cabling installation; manage daily work assignments and planning.
  • Operate, maintain, and train crews on specialized machinery such as Super Jets, Micro Jets, capstan wheels, air compressors, and hydraulic reel trailers.
  • Interpret blueprints and ensure projects meet specifications and safety requirements.
  • Oversee safety and compliance with state, local, DOT, and OSHA standards; direct traffic per DOT guidelines.
  • Maintain records of production, materials, and job progress; provide forecasts and updates via the company project management platform.
  • Perform utility locates, route drives, and provide 24/7 emergency response support for network repairs.
  • Serve as primary field contact for clients, permitting agencies, and inspectors.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled Fiber Optic Foreman local to the Portland, OR area. This position represents an opportunity to join an elite team, manage high-stakes underground and aerial projects, and grow alongside GRC. Responsibilities
  • Crew Leadership: Lead underground and aerial crews in blowing fiber, pulling innerduct conduits, and installing cabling. Manage daily assignments and path planning.
  • Equipment Mastery: Operate, maintain, and train crews on specialized machinery including Super Jets, Micro Jets, capstan wheels, air compressors, and hydraulic reel trailers.
  • Project Oversight: Interpret construction plans/blueprints to ensure projects meet precise specifications and safety standards.
  • Safety & Compliance: Direct traffic per DOT guidelines. Oversee health and safety programs to ensure 100% compliance with state, local, DOT, and OSHA requirements.
  • Operations Management: Maintain accurate records of production, materials, and job progress. Provide detailed forecasts and updates via Vero's proprietary project management platform.
  • Network Maintenance: Perform utility locates, route drives, and provide 24/7 emergency response support for network repairs.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary field contact for clients, permitting agencies, and DOT/OSHA inspectors.
Required Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensing: A valid Driver's License with a clean driving record (CDL preferred given the equipment).
  • Experience: Proven experience leading field crews in telecommunications or underground utility construction.
  • Technical Skill: Proficiency in reading blueprints and operating fiber blowing/pulling equipment.
  • Availability: Ability to travel 75% of the time and remain on-call for emergency repairs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Vocational training or an associate degree in Telecommunications or Electronics.
  • Advanced experience in fiber splicing and network troubleshooting.
  • Strong proficiency in Google Suite (Sheets), Google Maps, and Google Earth.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with a focus on "leading from the front.".
  • CDL (Class A)
Additional Information

Hourly Range: $30 - $38 Hourly, based on experience

Schedule: Day Shift: Monday - Friday & Night Shift: Sunday - Thursday

Travel Requirements: 75%

Role Openings: 2

Target Start Date: 2-3 weeks from offer
