Job summary

Frontier Communications is seeking a Fiber Network Field Technician in Downey, CA to perform installation and maintenance of fiber services from the customer-serving terminal to the customer premises. The role includes configuring equipment, testing networks, and assisting with service activations.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a valid California class C driver's license.
  • Must be able to perceive differences in colors.
  • Must be able to distinguish audible tones/levels.
  • Fingerprinting and DOJ background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, removes, rearranges, programs, tests, troubleshoots and maintains fiber network services.
  • Installs and configures routers and set‑top boxes, may assist with PC software installation and ensures proper PC configuration.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs outside and inside fiber equipment/facilities, including inside wiring and fiber jumpers at the distribution hub, and activates the ONT.
  • Interacts with customers to arrange equipment placement, may assist with account registration, e‑mail, and web access, and trains customers on new equipment.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction and follows up on inquiries.
  • Per company policy and weight specifications for work aloft, candidates cannot exceed 275 pounds, inclusive of clothing and proper footwear.

Summary

Responsible for tasks assigned by the Company in connection with service order and repair activity on fiber network facilities between and including the customer-serving terminal and into the customer's premise, as well as installation activity at the fiber hub. These tasks may include, but are not limited to, installation and maintenance of voice and data and video equipment and/or service at the customer premise, in addition to providing revenue enhancing offers to the customer. Perform other duties as required.

General Duties
  • Installs, removes, rearranges, programs, tests, troubleshoots and maintains fiber network services.
  • Installs and configures routers and set‑top boxes, may assist with the installation of PC software and ensure proper configuration of the customer's PC, interacts with the Fiber Solution Center as needed, and may install appropriate inside wire/cable such as Cat 5E or coaxial cable.
  • Installs, maintains and repairs outside and inside fiber equipment/facilities, including inside wiring and fiber jumpers at the distribution hub, and activates the ONT.
  • Interfaces with customer to negotiate placement of equipment, may assist with account registration, e‑mail, and web access, and trains the customer on how to use new equipment. Ensures the customer is satisfied with the work and responds to inquiries with follow‑up.
  • Interprets schematic work order drawings to determine job specifications and installation needs, orders and/or obtains required equipment, and effects problem solving where appropriate.
  • Utilizes various test equipment to analyze equipment trouble and takes appropriate maintenance action.
  • May be required to perform other duties of the Customer Service Technician II classification.
  • May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.

Basic Qualifications
  • Results obtained in standard tests for this position must meet minimum requirements established by the Company in accordance with company policy.
  • Experience – Management will designate the experience level: first consideration will be given to an individual who has successfully held the position of Fiber Network Field Technician, currently holds the title of Customer Service Technician II or possesses equivalent experience; second consideration to an individual who, in the last ten years, has held positions such as Customer Service Technician I, II, or III, or Special Equipment Installer, or equivalent experience; third consideration to an individual who, in the last ten years, has held positions such as Cable Splicer, Communications Specialist, Customer Engineer‑Data Applications, Internal Communications Technician, Public Access Sales Technician, Collector Maintainer, Senior Communications Specialist, or equivalent experience; fourth consideration to an individual with positions such as Buried Service Wire Technician, Equipment Installer, Equipment Maintainer, Frame Worker, Line Worker, Plant Construction Installer, or equivalent experience. If no candidates meet the criteria above, consideration will be given to all other individuals.

  • Must possess a valid California class "C" driver’s license and, if required, proficiency in operating a vehicle equipped with a manual transmission at the assigned job site.
  • Legally required criminal records check – Employee must be fingerprinted and pass Department of Justice screening, including continuous monitoring while employed.
