We are looking for a Fiber Drop Laborer to join our growing team.

This position will be reporting out of our Shelbyville, TN Office.

Responsibilities:

  • Dig trenches, pulling fiber optic cables through conduit and installing necessary hardware.
  • Dig trenches for burying fiber optic cables, either by hand or using trenching machines.
  • Pull fiber optic cables through conduit, ensuring proper placement and avoiding damage.
  • Assist with various tasks on construction sites, including loading and unloading materials, setting up safety perimeters and cleaning up job sites.
  • Perform basic fiber splicing and maintenance activities under supervision.
  • Operate various types of utility vehicles and equipment, including trenching machines and other hand tools.
  • Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
  • Assist in the hanging of overhead cable or strand using various methods, including but not limited to a ladder, bucket truck, or gaffs.
  • Adhere to company and industry safety standards, including using proper safety gear and following OSHA regulations.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets the company’s minimum safety standards.
  • Prior fiber optic, construction or telecommunication experience is preferred.
  • Familiar with OTDR testing, light source and power meter testing and interpreting fiber optic schematics.
  • Understanding of fiber color codes and splicing matrix sheets.
  • Proficient in the operation and maintenance of splicing and testing equipment (e.g., fusion splicers, OTDRs, cleavers).
  • Proficient in Internet-related applications such as email and web browsers.
  • Thorough understanding of basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Able to meet physical requirements: climb ladders, work in confined spaces and/or various heights, lift and/or move up to 50-75 lbs., squat, kneel, bend, crawl and stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to work outdoors in various weather conditions, in confined spaces, and at heights when necessary.
  • Self-starter with a positive attitude and willingness to work.

Schedule:

  • Regularly scheduled to work 40 hours a week.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed in addition to regular travel. As part of your job duties, you may be required to travel depending on the project needs. When work is slower in your market, there may be an occasion that you would be asked to travel to another market location to help with the workload either in state or out of state.

Employment is contingent on the successful completion of a pre-employment screen, including a drug test and an acceptable driving record.
