Job summary

Fiber Network Services, Inc. seeks a Fiber Construction Supervisor to lead Roanoke, VA field operations of outside plant fiber deployments. You’ll supervise coordinators, manage crews and subcontractors, and ensure safe, on-schedule, within-budget project delivery with precise engineering adherence.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering is a plus.
• Minimum of 2–4 years of experience in telecom, broadband, or Outside Plant (OSP) fiberoptic construction supervision.
• Proven experience managing or supervising field-level personnel, such as construction coordinators, inspectors, or crew leads.
• Track record managing heavy civil or mechanical utility subcontractors (e.g., directional drilling or aerial linemen crews).
• Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record (CDL preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct supervision, mentorship, and guidance to a team of construction coordinators.
• Delegate tasks and project areas to coordinators, tracking performance and development.
• Review daily logs, structural tracking data, and field update metrics prepared by coordinators.
• Serve as the escalation point for coordinators resolving vendor, client, or technical issues.
• Oversee daily field operations for aerial and underground fiber construction activities; include directional boring, trenching, missile boring, and strand/cable placement.
• Manage in-house crews and subcontractors, providing targets, workflow checks, and conflict resolution.
• Enforce QA/QC standards via pre-construction walkouts, key inspections, and final walk-throughs with customers/inspectors.
• Verify as-built documentation and construction prints for accuracy before closeout packages are submitted.
• Participate in on-call schedule for 24/7 restorations; coordinate crews, materials, and coordinators during emergencies.
• Communicate real-time restoration updates to PMs, NOC, and clients during outages.
• Read telecom blueprints, engineering designs, splicing schematics, and CATV drawings.
• Coordinate locates (811), ROW access, and MOT permits.
• Track daily production metrics and logs via PM systems; align with master schedule.
• Manage material logistics and ensure equipment maintenance.
• Maintain incident-free work environments by enforcing OSHA rules and PPE use.
• Conduct tailgate safety meetings and document safety audits.
• Identify hazards in real time and halt production if needed.
