Job summary

Surf Internet in Indiana is seeking a Drill Operator for Fiber Construction to join our field team. You will operate and maintain the directional drill on small horizontal projects, locate utilities, and prepare sites to ensure safe workflows.

You will also train teammates, assist with drilling fluid mixing, HDPE pipe fusion, and clean-up tasks, while transporting materials and supporting site readiness as needed.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience operating a directional drill required.
• Experience installing conduit and fiber optic cables preferred.
• Education in Utilities Construction preferred.
• Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to travel, less than 5 days per month.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs regularly.

Responsibilities

• Operate the directional drill.
• Train others on the team to operate the directional drill.
• Work on small horizontal directional drilling projects.
• Prepare a worksite to locate utilities and eliminate hazards.
• Load, unload and transport construction materials and tools.
• Hand dig to clear debris for an operator.
• Check utilities and clearances.
• Fuse and prepare HDPE pipe, assemble fittings and parts to specifications.
• Assist with drilling fluid mixing and clean-up.
• Assist with job site clean-up.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

OverviewThe Fiber Construction team is responsible for the digging and placing of all conduit as well as pulling fiber through the conduit and installation of underground structures.
