Job description

Job Title: Firefighter / EMT-B
Department: In-plant
Reports to: Captain

Position Summary: Responds to fire, medical, rescue and hazardous materials incidents during client’s emergencies. Conducts and receives emergency response training, performs inspections and preventative maintenance on emergency response equipment and fire protection systems within client’s facilities and provides rescue stand-by services.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to fires and a variety of emergencies, including hazardous materials incidents, rescues, natural disasters, and other emergency situations; suppress and extinguish fires, and perform related life and property protection.
  • Identify, isolate, and contain hazardous materials in a safe and effective manner.
  • Drive emergency vehicles as needed and operate related apparatus to respond to emergency calls.
  • Administer basic first aid and medical support, in accordance with federal, state, local and company policy and regulations.
  • Assess the nature and extent of injuries/illnesses to prioritize medical procedures.
  • Effectively communicate with client and site personnel regarding any worksite incidents, hazards, etc.
  • Demonstrate a strong orientation towards teamwork and the ability to understand the importance of team coordinated efforts.
  • Be aware of the constantly changing worksite environment and construction site hazards.
  • Ensure that quality, clinical standards are practiced at all times.
  • Assist in completing and maintaining records related to personnel, incidents, and/or other related items.
  • Assist the Site Safety Managers and Personnel in maintaining the safest and most secure work environment possible.
  • Participate in ongoing training and education sessions.
  • Ensure the proper condition, maintenance, and appearance of apparatus and equipment; prepare and ensure vehicles and apparatus are ready for immediate response.
  • Participate in the daily functions of the station duties which may include: housekeeping, maintenance activities, and/or performing other related duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Paramedic (EMT-P) State Certification and/or National Registry; must provide proof of reciprocity (Preferred).
  • Flexible schedule: Days, Nights, Weekend availability required.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification; any additional certifications are a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and employees.
Employment Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age or older – insurability requirements.
  • Pre-Employment DOT Physical / Post-employment DOT Physical (frequency determined by expiration of medical certificate).
Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop and bend. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to kneel, crouch, climb or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Combination of office and production environments. Routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, and air pollution are possible/probable. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises, and minor burns.
