Job summary

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) seeks a Ferry Operator Assistant to support operations of the Keller Ferry on Lake Roosevelt, 14 miles north of Wilbur. You will help load, secure, and cross vehicles and passengers safely, and assist the Ferry Operator while maintaining logs and performing routine checks.

Work outdoors on deck and in engine rooms, with shifts including days, nights, and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Assist Ferry Operator in operating the ferry.
• Participate in crew safety and training meetings.
• Secure vessel for docking and adjust loading ramps.
• Direct traffic and ensure proper vehicle balance on the vessel.
• Watch passenger safety and assist with engine servicing.
• Maintain logs, perform inspections, and assist with repairs.
• Assist in vessel fueling operations and safety procedures.
• Follow US Coast Guard rules and vessel operation duties.
