The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Ferry Operator Assistant to support the Keller Ferry on the Columbia River. You will assist with loading, unloading, docking, and passenger safety for up to 149 passengers and 20 cars, operating 18 hours daily.

Work is outdoors with variable weather, shifts include day and night, and candidate must meet safety, credential, and licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist Ferry Operator in the operation of the ferry.
• Attend crew safety and training meetings and enforce safe practices.
• Secure the vessel during docking, cast off lines, and adjust loading ramps.
• Direct traffic and ensure proper vehicle balance on the ferry.
• Lubricate and service engines, running gear, and winches.
• Inspect and maintain logs for trips, repairs, and damages.
