U.S. Facilities, Inc. seeks a proven Ferry Crewmember to join its vessel operations in Virginia.

You will assist with loading and unloading vehicles and passengers, maintain safety, and ensure compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations while representing the company professionally. Responsibilities include directing traffic, securing vehicles, providing passenger information, standing lookout, performing security and emergency duties, and maintaining deck cleanliness.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing manual labor with hand tools and in physically demanding environments.
  • Experience participating in and performing emergency response activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public.
  • Knowledge of seamanship, line handling, and marine terminology.
  • High school diploma or GED; equivalent experience may substitute.

Responsibilities

  • Direct vehicles and passengers to proper locations with clear signals during loading/unloading.
  • Ensure safe spacing between vehicles to allow passenger egress.
  • Chock first and last vehicle in each lane for safety.
  • Provide information and assistance to passengers.
  • Handle vessel lines as required and stand lookout watch when needed.
  • Patrol decks and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and remove trash from assigned areas.
  • Serve as emergency Helmsman when required.
  • Perform security sweeps to ensure access areas are clear of passengers and vehicles between operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain safety and order.

Job description

U.S. Facilities, Inc., a consolidated facility management service company, is seeking a proven industry professional experienced Ferry Crewmember shall serve as a member of a ferry boat crew, providing assistance in loading and unloading the vessel with vehicles; maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the loading, underway, and unloading processes; and adhering to all U.S. Coast Guard regulations while representing U.S. Facilities in a positive manner.

Core Responsibilities:
  • Direct vehicles and passengers to the proper location with clearly understood signals during loading and unloading operations
  • Ensure proper spacing between vehicles, allowing for safe egress of passengers
  • Properly chock first and last vehicle in each lane
  • Provide information and assistance to passengers
  • Properly handle vessel lines as required
  • Correctly stand lookout watch when required
  • Properly patrol decks and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations
  • Ensure cleanliness of assigned areas and empty trash
  • Serve as emergency Helmsmen
  • Perform other duties as assigned to maintain the safety, cleanliness, and orderliness of the vessel
  • Be alert to security violations and suspicious behavior
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations
  • Perform security sweeps of the vessel between unloading and loading to ensure passenger access areas are clear of passengers and vehicles at the end of each passage
  • Any other duties assigned by a supervisor or Project Manager.

  • Be prepared to operate appropriate equipment in all kinds of weather conditions
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience performing manual labor with a variety of hand tools
  • Experience participating in and performing emergency response activities
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and the public effectively and courteously
  • Knowledge of seamanship, line handling, and marine terminology
  • Valid driver's license
  • All new hires are required to get a Merchant Marine Credential - endorsed as AB or QMED within two (2) years of the date of hire
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Merchant Marine Credentials, any endorsement

NOTE: This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response and emergency operations. VDOT/Project Management will determine when essential positions are required.
