ADM is seeking a Scientist I for benchtop and pilot-scale fermentation at our Decatur, IL R&D Center. You will support fermentation research, validate new strains, and optimize processes across yeast, bacterial, and fungal systems.

The role requires execution of experimental plans, operation of fermentation systems, precise data collection, and documentation of results for technical leaders and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or equivalent hands-on fermentation experience.
• 2–3 years of relevant lab/fermentation or pilot-scale experience preferred for non-degree candidates.
• Ability to execute detailed experimental protocols with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of aseptic technique and laboratory safety practices.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities with good written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary R&D environment.

Responsabilités

• Execute benchtop and pilot-scale fermentation experiments at 7.5 L to 100 L scale.
• Set up, operate, monitor, sample, clean, and maintain fermentation systems and equipment.
• Follow SOPs, procedures, and safety requirements to ensure high-quality execution.
• Apply aseptic techniques during media prep, inoculation, sampling, transfers, and handling.
• Record experimental conditions, data, deviations and results in batch records or notebooks.
• Perform routine sample analysis and support data interpretation for fermentation performance.
• Troubleshoot processes and equipment; recommend corrective actions as needed.
• Contribute to development and documentation of fermentation protocols and SOPs.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe lab and pilot-plant workspace with inventory management.
• Interpret results and communicate progress, risks, and issues to project teams.
