Job Description:

Mount Holyoke College is searching for a Fencing Club Coach to lead and inspire our student-athletes. This role is perfect for a passionate and experienced fencing enthusiast who is dedicated to fostering both athletic excellence and personal growth within a collaborative club sports environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching & Development:

  • Design and implement engaging practices that cover fundamental techniques, strategies, rules, conditioning, and safety.
  • Lead and supervise drills, technique execution, and simulated competitive bouts.
  • Cultivate a high-expectation, high-effort environment, while always respecting the student board's governance of club sports and collaborating with them on key decisions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety standards and all departmental and facility policies.
  • Provide dedicated support to the team at all practices and competitions.
  • Partner with student leadership to create an inclusive team culture that promotes holistic growth for all student-athletes — academically, athletically, as leaders, and as individuals.
  • Actively champion a culture of health, well-being, and safety within the club.


Administrative & Compliance:

  • Assist with competition scheduling and travel arrangements, coordinating closely with Athletics and Student Involvement.
  • Uphold all Risk Management Policies and develop/implement robust safety procedures.
  • Oversee the safety and maintenance of all fencing equipment.
  • Stay informed on all rule changes, trends, and compliance requirements within fencing.
  • Manage team attendance records and rosters.
  • Serve as the officially listed PE Club Course Instructor, certifying PE credits in collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director within Registrar-specified timelines.
  • Complete any additional required trainings.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience playing and/or coaching fencing.
  • Familiarity with USA Fencing, USACFC, and NEIFC policies.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills.
  • A deep commitment to student-athletes, genuine passion for fencing, and a strong ability to coach and motivate.
  • A clear willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
  • Flexibility to work weeknights and weekends as needed.
  • A valid driver’s license.
