Miami County is seeking a Juvenile Detention Officer to oversee daily operations at the West Central Juvenile Detention Facility. The role includes supervising youth, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing care during detainment. Candidates should possess a high school diploma and relevant experience, with strong communication and analytical skills.
Under general direction, conducts daily operation and programming within the West Central Juvenile Detention Facility. Adheres to applicable federal and state laws, ensures compliance with regulations set forth by the American Correctional Association and the Department of Youth Services standards. Maintains security of the facility and grounds while ensuring safety of youth. Directs youth through daily scheduled activities, including providing proper care such as medical needs, hygiene items, and food. Conducts detention intakes, ensuring required information is obtained from youth. Processes assessments and screenings, making sure youth are aware of all requirements and procedures while detained. Provides assistance and guidance during the detainment process and in difficult or unusual situations.
High School Diploma and/or equivalent, with training or a combination of training and work experience demonstrating the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. The role involves complex tasks, application of laws, regulations, standards, and procedures, requiring discretionary decision-making, judgment, observation, communication, and analytical skills.
