Description

We are looking for a female companion who has experience with exercise, movement, and muscle groups—whether through certified yoga instruction or solid hands-on experience with fitness and wellness.

This is a part-time companionship position focused on gentle, guided movement sessions with an older adult living with Dementia. Ideal for someone who enjoys working 1-on-1, is encouraging, and understands how to safely guide physical activity based on ability and comfort.

Location: 50th Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101

Schedule: Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Rate: $25/hour

Requirements:

Experience in yoga, fitness, or movement-based routines

Familiarity with muscle groups and safe exercise practices

Warm, reliable, and engaging personality

Must be comfortable working in Long Island City

Responsibilities:

  • Providing proactive, creative companionship to older adults and people with chronic health conditions in their homes (e.g., discussing current events, creating artwork, reviewing photo albums).
  • Planning activities outside the home and accompanying clients to keep them engaged with the world and their favorite pastimes (e.g., trips to museums, concerts, plays, or the park).
  • Escorting clients to doctors’ appointments.
  • Reminding clients to take their medications.
  • Doing light exercise with clients (e.g., helping with stretching routines or prescribed physical therapy ).
  • Assisting clients in preparing meals.
  • Performing light housekeeping, such as dusting, tidying, and laundry.

Qualifications:

We welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds including the creative arts and healthcare fields. Our employment is selective. Strong candidates possess:

  • A passion for caring for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. Prior experience working with this population is valued, but not required.
  • An accredited high school diploma, though we prefer candidates with college and advanced degrees
  • Deep empathy and patience.

  • Flexibility, reliability, and responsiveness.
  • Creativity and a positive, open-hearted approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to build trust-based relationships with clients and their families.
