Job Title: FEMA - Environmental Planning Specialist

Job Description:

  1. Conducts site inspections and ensures that any proposed project actions comply with environmental, floodplain, historic preservation laws, regulations, and executive orders. Includes conducting environmental assessments and environmental impact statements as required.
  2. Assesses potential impacts to species and habitat on projects, prepares No Effect memos, conducts biological assessments and surveys to determine the existence of, and potential impact to, endangered species in accordance with criteria.
  3. Conducts surveys, assessments and reviews of other potential areas of impact such as water quality, wetland delineations, sole or principle drinking aquifers, prime farmlands and other ecologically significant or geographically unique areas.
  4. Performs analyses to ensure all reasonable alternatives have been evaluated in accordance with criteria and documented in written reports.
  5. Provides technical expertise to assist with Floodplain and Wetland Issues to support documentation needed for Executive Order 11988 and Executive Order 11990.
  6. May coordinate and complete basic to moderately complex site inspections to validate and record damage to assist in the FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery process.
  7. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning, engineering or related discipline.
  2. 2 years of in-field experience.
  3. Domestic travel is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  2. Working knowledge of the practical application of science and technology including application of principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment.
  3. Demonstrates ability to balance and prioritize work.
  4. Strong attention to detail.
  5. Effective written and oral communication skills.
  6. Experience working with Federal Regulations and Code.
  7. Ability to adapt to change quickly and remain flexible.

Job Site Location: United States - Nationwide

Amount of Travel Required: 100%

Assignment Category: Fulltime-Temporary

Pay Range Minimum: $33.60

Pay Range Maximum: $67.20

Driver's License Requirements: An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
