Job Description:

The FEMA Cultural Resources Specialist:

  1. Provides technical expertise to ensure compliance with Federal historic preservation laws and regulations. Conduct reviews in accordance with 36 CFR Part 800—Protection of Historic Properties, Section 106 Review Process.
  2. Conducts record searches and surveys to help identify cultural resources and areas of concern. Reviews project descriptions, drawings, maps, and photographs to assess the potential of the project to impact cultural resources.
  3. Produces cultural resource documents presenting research and analysis results.
  4. Provides status updates.
  5. Communicate and coordinate with staff within FEMA as well as local, state, tribal and/or territorial governments.
  6. Performs other tasks associated with ensuring projects comply with Federal historic preservation laws and regulations.
  7. May coordinate and complete basic to moderately complex site inspections to validate and record damage to assist in the FEMA Public Assistance grant delivery process.
  8. Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  9. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in history, archaeology, anthropology, architectural history, art history, historic preservation or related field is required.
  2. 5 years of in-field experience or 2 years of in-field of expertise with a professional registration.
  3. Domestic travel is required.

Amount of Travel Required: 100%

Skills and Abilities:

  1. Must be a U.S. citizen and be able to obtain a FEMA Badge, which includes a background investigation for a Public Trust position.
  2. High competency with the use of computers and computing software (Word, Excel).
  3. Solid knowledge of relevant historic preservation laws, regulations, and the Section 106 and 110 compliance process as they apply to undertakings and management of historic properties.
  4. Solid professional compliance report writing skills.
  5. Good organizational skills and ability to work independently.
  6. Good communication and relationship management skills.

Pay Range Minimum: $33.60

Pay Range Maximum: $67.20

Work Location Options: Successful candidate will be required to work in office and field locations as needed.

Driver's License Requirements: An appropriate and valid driver's license is required.
