Job summary

The American Academy of Ophthalmology in South Florida is seeking a Board-Certified/ Fellow­ship-Trained Glaucoma Ophthalmologist to join our multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities

  • Provide medical and surgical glaucoma management for varied cases.
  • Perform glaucoma surgeries (trabeculectomy, tube shunt, MIGS).
  • Collaborate with cornea, retina, and oculoplastics colleagues on complex cases.
  • Co-manage with referring optometrists and physicians.
  • Maintain accurate medical records per standards.

About the Practice

We are a well-established, multidisciplinary ophthalmology practice serving South Florida with comprehensive subspecialty care. Our team includes fellowship-trained specialists in cornea and external disease, vitreoretinal disease, glaucoma, oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, and refractive surgery, all working collaboratively to provide seamless, high-quality eye care under one roof.

Our integrated model allows for efficient patient referrals across subspecialties, shared resources, and a strong culture of clinical collaboration.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible, Fellowship-Trained Glaucoma Ophthalmologist to join our growing practice. The ideal candidate will provide expert medical and surgical management of glaucoma patients, including complex and refractory cases, while collaborating closely with our cornea, retina, oculoplastics, and refractive surgery colleagues.

Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive medical and surgical management of glaucoma, including primary open-angle, angle-closure, secondary, and pediatric glaucoma
  • Perform glaucoma surgical procedures, including trabeculectomy, tube shunt implantation, MIGS (minimally invasive glaucoma surgery), and laser procedures (SLT, ALT, YAG PI, cyclophotocoagulation)
  • Collaborate with cataract, cornea, retina, and oculoplastics colleagues on combined and complex surgical cases
  • Participate in co-management relationships with referring optometrists and physicians
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical records in compliance with practice and regulatory standards
  • Contribute to a collegial, team-based clinical environment
  • Optionally participate in resident/fellow teaching, clinical research, or practice growth initiatives, depending on interest
  • Refractive cataract surgery potential
Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school
  • Completion of an accredited Ophthalmology residency
  • Completion of an accredited Glaucoma Fellowship
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology
  • Active or eligible for Florida medical license (unrestricted)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to multidisciplinary patient care
