Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) invites applications for the position of Fellow Experience and Academic Partnerships Specialist for the CMU Rales Fellows Program. This individual will have an outstanding opportunity to contribute to the development and realization of an innovative and high-impact graduate fellows program within one of the most creative and entrepreneurial institutions in higher education.

The Fellow Experience and Academic Partnerships Specialist enhances the graduate experience for CMU Rales Fellows by collaborating with faculty, departmental advising teams, and Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) coordinators. This role will help the program coordinate holistic support efforts among campus collaborators to ensure alignment and collaboration. The Specialist will also coordinate workshop speakers to further the development of CMU Rales Fellows as future STEM leaders. The position reports to Moises Padilla, executive director of the CMU Rales Fellows Program in the Office of the Provost.

The CMU Rales Fellows Program is a new graduate, cohort-based fellows program aimed at cultivating a new generation of domestic STEM leaders committed to innovation and encouraging others. CMU Rales Fellows benefit from a comprehensive, cohort-based experience, including faculty mentorship, exclusive professional development and networking opportunities, personalized career coaching, and financial support covering tuition and a monthly living stipend. The first cohort enrolled in fall 2024, with the program expected to support around 86 graduate students in STEM annually.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Serve as a point of contact and collaborate with faculty and departmental advising teams to offer holistic support to Fellows in a coordinated and comprehensive manner
  • Coordinate workshop speakers and events to foster the development of the Fellows as future STEM leaders
  • Meet individually with Fellows to review their academic progress, goals, and provide personalized support
  • Analyze and report on student academic data and records to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive strategic decision-making and improvements.
  • Assist and collaborate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive assessment plan to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Provide event planning and administrative support for strategic events and outreach
  • Foster effective working relationships with academic partners; communicate effectively with campus partners to ensure transparency, accuracy and alignment or services.
  • Maintain current documentation of all projects and processes for transparency and scaling.

You should demonstrate:

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and levels of the organization
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5-7 years’ experience advising students in various areas, including but not limited to academic advising, financial aid, and well being
  • Demonstrated experience in program development, assessment and strategic planning
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

  • Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.
